Camping is so much fun but so much work! Want to go camping without all the work? All you need to visit Ruby and/or Tweety are your clothes, food and beverages.

Ruby is a 2016 retro camper available to rent on site that sleeps two. Tweety is a bit older but well cared for and sleeps six. Our teepee Buffalo Knights sleeps four comfortably and is a must see! All quaintly exist with the Olivers on their property located in the Schertz/Cibolo area (conveniently located mid point between downtown San Antonio and New Braunfels/Gruene).  Both campers open up to the Crescent Bend Nature Park. The park is filled with walkways and nature. Some great information about Crescent Bend Nature Park can be found at http://friendscbnp.zenfolio.com/.  Fabulous rarely seen birds (in Texas) have been photographed in our park.

2 night minimum stay.

Many extras available. Our most popular amenities have proven to be the bikes to ride in the park or to town and of course the girls!  Who doesn't like fresh eggs especially when you get to gather them yourself? See many of our other amenities listed below. Our goal is to create for you a relaxing glamping experience that has everything you need to enjoy yourself without planning and packing trying to remember all the things you might need.

Nature walks/bird watching/cycling begin right outside your doorstep. You will feel like you are miles away from the city but restaurants/shops and attractions are so near! For our fellow cycling friends there are an array of country road routes beginning on location! Fishing is less than ½ mile walk away in the Cibolo Creek.

Historic downtown Cibolo is a 2 mile bike ride away with offerings such as Emily’s Coffee Place, Harmon’s BBQ, Catalano’s Pizzeria, Old Main Icehouse (which has an array of food trucks and live music), 1908 Wine and Ale Bar, Kindling Texas Kitchen and The Mill Boutique which features art classes, the work of local artists and the Scoop at the Mill…. homemade ice cream from Fredericksburg, Texas! A new addition to Cibolo is the Clayground - a super fun and reasonable paint your own pottery studio. And although it seems a crime to include in the same paragraph with these local favs…..but it is SO convenient….Wal Mart is within 3! Easy bike ride to all!

Tubing! Lots of our summer guests are tubers either visiting the Comal or Guadalupe river.  Tubing the Comal is an easy 17 miles away.

Local attractions:  Natural Bridge Caverns and Wildlife Ranch - 12 miles; downtown San Antonio/Riverwalk - 25 miles; New Braunfels/Gruene - 25 miles; Six Flags Fiesta Texas -  27 miles; Seaworld - 40 miles

Shopping:  the Forum - 9 miles;   IKEA!!! - 9 miles; San Marcos Outlet Malls - 30 miles.

Interaction with guests:

We want to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We love staying in Ruby and thought others would too. We are a hospitality minded couple and take great joy in providing rest and relaxation for our friends and now our guests. We want to do all we can to make you stay something you want to tell your friends about.

The space:  Ruby, Tweety and Buffalo Knights are located at the back of our property and the campers' doors opens up to 175 acres of park and creek. Vehicular travel is not allowed in the part of the park closest to our property so the area is mostly secluded and private except for occasional walkers and bird watchers.

The neighborhood:

Our neighborhood is an established rural subdivision with only two streets. Our homesteads mostly consist of 2-3 acre plots.

RUBY ANY DAY!

ABOUT US:

Ruby and Tweety are owned and loved by Ollie and Paula Oliver. Paula is a native Texan who has lived in San Antonio her entire life and Ollie is a native Cheesehead who got to Texas as fast as he could after getting out of Wisconsin as soon as he could!

We have been married for over 20 years and have lived in our current home since 2001.  We love being home but we have always shared a love for camping. We started camping in the early 1990s in its most primitive form (i.e. no water, electric or bathroom). BUT we had a killer jam box! It was the size of a small suitcase and ate ‘D’ size batteries like crazy but it was music….and with music, good food and a little shelter we were in heaven just getting away together.

We continued to tent camp for years but graduated to sites with electric, water and bathrooms. Pretty much a necessity with small children AND we needed power for our small a/c unit that we hung out of our tent window so it would drip outside. GENIUS! We looked like we were total redneck campers but hey we were summertime camping in Texas!

One day Ollie comes home and says he bought a 1979 Holiday Rambler off Craigslist for $3600.  You did what??? She was covered in mustard yellow shag carpet from head to toe but her a/c was ice cold, she kept ice cream frozen, had a kitchen and bathroom and ran like a champ. We named her the Camp Shack.  Our kids were embarrassed to death when we would pull up in her but boy did we have some great times and create wonderful family memories in the 10 years we owned her.

Once the kids started getting older and camping trips became fewer and fewer we downsized to Sunny Bee and traveled on our own.  We were as happy as clams traveling around in our easy little Sunny Bee until one day we were out driving and saw this cute little red camper. Let’s just go look at her…just look…we said.

We bought Ruby in 2016 and she has traveled quite a bit. Her favorite place is the birthplace of Texas Independence but she has been to the beach and on a nice long road trip out west to Fort Davis, Lajitas and Big Bend.

When the weather started getting nice and much work was needed to be done at home we started plopping her out in our back yard and camped without having to go anywhere. We had so much fun it made us realize what we have to offer others. So cheers… here’s to our glamping venture!
